DESIGN OF A TENSION FABRIC STRUCTURE WITH ANALOGY TO NATURE

Abstract:
The aim of the project was to design a small-to-medium size tension fabric structure to rejuvenate a chosen area on University campus. The structure was to have an aesthetic appeal, with the fabric membrane having a minimum life-span of 15 years. The structure is an impressive culmination of a fourth year project which incorporates aspects of civil engineering and architecture. A considerable benefit realised from the project was the learning experience for the students, encouraging self-development in many different aspects: creativity, understanding of unconventional concepts, appreciation of the underlying theory and design methodologies.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHOTOVOLTAIC AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT INSTRUMENTS

Abstract:
This article briefly describes the history of the development of photovoltaics. The article also describes the different mechanisms of financial support for the installation of renewable energy sources including PV installations, with particular emphasis on the law on renewable energy sources. They were taken into account both national funds from the NFEP&WM (National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management) or from voivodeship funds for environmental protection and water management) and foreign funds.

POSSIBILITIES OF USE SOLAR RADIATION IN BUILDING IN POLISH CLIMAT CONDITIONS

Abstract:
This article is an attempt of comprehensive description of the possibilities of using solar radiation in Polish conditions. At the beginning, it explains why we should substitute more and more conventional sources of energy with renewable sources, especially in buildings. Next part describes why solar radiation is one of the most perspective solutions of use energy and it indicates its advantages and disadvantages. This article explains how to convert this energy into heat and electricity and describes some possibilities how to use it in buildings. Knowledge of the current situation in the market and the available technologies can allow us to design solar installations even at the design stage of the building. This is turn significantly reduces costs of the system and it can become very beneficial, not only on environmental issues, but also on financial issues.

AMMONIA – CARBON ADSORPTION CYCLE RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

Abstract:
Active carbon-ammonia cycles have been developed from the 1980.s in the USA and are still a major research interest at the University of Warwick, where systems have been built for car air conditioning, solar refrigeration and gas-fired heat pumps. The basic cycles are introduced and a brief description of the historical development is presented. The paper then presents work to date on domestic gas fired heat pumps with preliminary results from the latest system under test, and describes plans and the prospects for future products. The possibility of using carbon-ammonia in thermal transformers for industrial use is modelled theoretically and the prospects discussed and compared with using ammonia and chemical salts.

FUTURE OF THE POLISH ENERGY SECTOR IN CONSIDERATION OF THE EU ETS

Abstract:
Presented paper analyses the possible future of the Polish energy power sector in consideration of European Emission Trading System (EU ETS). It also describes the legislation and mechanisms that influence the European carbon market with a focus on their implications towards the sector of energy production in Poland. First chapter describes the international agreements and mechanisms that are part of Polish legislation with a focus on Kyoto Protocol. In the second chapter the Directive 2003/87/WE with further amendments is being analysed with its most relevant articles impacting Polish energy sector. The third chapter presents recent changes to the system that shaped its structure and significantly impacted the market allowance price. In the fourth chapter the future outlook is being drawn based on further detailed description of changing EUA price, derogations to European Directives and possible emission levels.
